Landscape Lighting
Most landscape lighting that disappoints was not badly designed. It was badly connected.
Two failures account for the great majority of what we get called to fix. The first is voltage drop: a 12-volt system loses voltage over distance, so fixtures at the far end of a long run go dim and yellow while the ones near the transformer look fine. That is a design calculation, not a fixture fault, and adding a bigger transformer without recalculating the runs does not fix it. The second is connections. Twist-on wire nuts pushed into the soil will corrode in Florida ground within a season or two, which is why the correct method is waterproof gel-filled or heat-shrink connectors, buried at proper depth.
Salt air compounds all of this near the coast, attacking fixture housings and any fitting that is not rated for it. Brass and copper weather to a patina and keep working; cheap aluminum and plated fittings pit and fail.
We are happy to repair systems we did not install. Chasing a fault through an existing run is often much cheaper than replacing the whole thing.
Lighting types
Walkways, steps and level changes. The practical safety case, and the fixtures most often damaged by mowers and trimmers.
Palms, oaks and architectural features. Placement and beam angle matter far more than the number of fixtures.
Fixtures mounted high in trees, casting a soft moonlight effect across the ground. Subtle and very effective.
Even light across a facade, or a raking angle to bring out texture in stone and stucco.
These have specific bonding and GFCI requirements. This is where DIY landscape lighting genuinely becomes unsafe.
Marking edges and gates, particularly useful on the long approaches common in Wekiwa Springs and Heathrow.
